A report today by the Wall Street Journal indicated that Compass is negotiating to buy Warren Buffett’s real-estate brokerage business. The deal would be the latest coming together of real-estate brokerages in what has been a fairly turbulent last few years in the industry.

While no purchase price was given, the deal was reported to be progressing and could become a reality soon.

Compass ranked as the No. 1 firm by sales volume in RISMedia’s 2024 Power Broker Report, based on more than $184B in residential sales volume in 2023, while Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices parent company, HomeServices of America, came in at No. 4, with approximately $134B in 2023 sales volume. Compass is currently reporting more than $231B in residential sales volume for 2024, compared to HomeServices $137B for the same year.

In December of last year, Compass announced the acquisition of @properties Christie’s International Real Estate for $444M.

RISMedia has reached out to Compass for comment, and this story will be updated as new details are made available.
