Dubai Opera
Nestled in the heart of Downtown Dubai, the Dubai Opera is a multi-format venue designed by Atkins and lead architect Janus Rostock. The building reaches a total height of 44 meters with an exterior inspired by the traditional “dhow” boat — a stylish tribute to Dubai’s maritime history. This architectural gem boasts a stunning glass and wood façade that reflects the shimmering waters of the Dubai Fountain. The Dubai Opera is a cultural hub that enriches the city’s artistic landscape. The project presented a significant challenge due to its short construction timeline. The facade engineering encompassed not only the exterior facades but also the large canopy roof, which featured a particularly complex design owing to the building’s geometry. Additional elements, such as the aforementioned sliding glass doors, interior wood panelling, and the interior facade of the sky restaurant, added to the intricacy of the project.
The Dubai Opera Auditorium is a versatile multi-form theatre that effortlessly transforms from an elegant stage for concerts and theatrical shows to a resplendent concert hall. With a seating capacity of 2,000, the Dubai Opera Auditorium hosts various performances, including opera, ballet, and concerts making it a cornerstone in the vibrant cultural scene of Dubai.

The Opus by Zaha Hadid
A sculptural landmark, The Opus was envisioned and designed in its entirety by the late architectural legend, Dame Zaha Hadid. From exterior to interior, each detail of this stunning glass and steel structure is an engineering masterpiece a powerful testament to her unique aesthetics and vision of the future. With its flowing, curved shape, The Opus stands out not only for its futuristic design but also for being the location of the luxury ME by Meliá Hotel and luxury residences housed within, making it a symbol of the city’s extravagance.
Crafted with ingenuity and a sculptural organic aesthetic resembling a liquescent ice cube eroded by a free-form, fluid void, this is a striking fusion of cutting-edge creativity and cultural art. “The precise orthogonal geometries of the Opus’ elemental glass cube contrasts dramatically with the fluidity of the eight-storey void and its centre,” explained Christos Passass, project director at Zaha Hadid Architects.

The 22-storey O-14 Tower — affectionately dubbed the Swiss Cheese Tower — is an architectural marvel that is widely recognised for its distinctive perforated facade. Designed by the acclaimed firm Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, the tower features a striking 40 cm thick facade made of fluid concrete with over 1,300 circular openings that allow for natural ventilation while offering stunning views of the surrounding cityscape. The exoskeleton not only serves as the primary vertical and lateral support but also frees the core from handling lateral forces, allowing it to be minimised for utilities and transportation. This innovative design improves efficiency by reducing the need for thickened floor plates commonly seen in traditional curtain-wall towers. This innovative design not only enhances the building’s aesthetics but also promotes energy efficiency, aligning with Dubai’s sustainability goals. The O-14 Tower serves as a prime example of how contemporary architecture can merge functionality with artistic expression, making it a striking addition to the Dubai skyline. Located along the Dubai Creek waterfront, the O-14 tower won the 2009 Silver Emporis Skyscraper Award for its unique structural design and transformative approach to office tower architecture.

Cayan Tower
The 75-story Cayan Tower in Dubai, standing at 1,010 feet tall, is the world’s tallest twisting tower, rotating 90 degrees from base to top. Cayan Tower, also known as the Twisting Tower, was designed by the Skidmore, Owings & Merrill architectural firm, and it features 75 floors of luxury apartments and commercial spaces. Unlike other twisting skyscrapers, such as the Absolute Towers in Toronto, which use conventional column grids resulting in awkward layouts, Cayan Tower was designed to maintain efficient interior floor plans without compromising on structural integrity. Each floor rotates 1.2 degrees around a cylindrical elevator and service core, described as a vertical “spindle,” allowing for regular floor layouts and uniform curtainwall construction.
This innovative design balances aesthetic appeal with practicality, a key demand from Cayan Investment and Developers. The tower’s innovative design not only enhances its aesthetic appeal but also reduces wind loads on the structure, ensuring stability in the strong desert winds. Cayan Tower has become an emblem of modern architectural ingenuity in Dubai, showcasing the city’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of design and engineering.
